The Chair

The Chair is a collection of 32 photos, taken of some incredibly talented people. Each photo showcases a special individual, covered in a variety of paint. The paint symbolizes the creativity and love for the arts that each one of us has within ourselves. It is a representation of the creative side that every person carries within them, regardless of the career path they have taken, as well as the chaotic nature that life is as a whole. The colors were chose by the individual and gives each photo its own unique style. Alongside the photos, every individual was given a set of questions. The answers provide a better understanding of the character that each person has. I encourage you to read their responses.

The Chair itself is a representation of the idea of home and the comfort that a safe space can provide. It is a manifestation of the security a tangible object can have on anyone. As human beings, we instinctively latch on to something, or someone that makes us feel validated. That validation that we feel helps our creative side thrive. The Chair is a stand-in for the everyday objects that help us get through the day, while providing a spark for all the possible things we are capable of doing.

Overall, The Chair is an amalgamation of the love of the arts that we all carry within ourselves despite the life path we have taken, and the chaotic mess that life can be sometimes. However, despite all of that, each one of us has the ability to seek and find comfort in whatever we define as home. Within that home, we allow ourselves to express our true selves. And when we give ourselves space to be who we want to be, we allow ourselves to live a life worth living.
